Postdoctoral Research Associate
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The lab of Dr. Joseph (Joe) Glavy at the University of Texas at Tyler, Fisch College of Pharmacy, is recruiting a postdoctoral scholar to join a collaborative research team. The lab's project will focus on characterizing the structures within the nucleus and how they change throughout mitosis in lower eukaryotes (red algae). The work's primary focus is the nuclear pore and includes related structures. Duties will consist of using genome-resolved multi-Omics methods paired with high-resolution imaging. The position is expected to work independently under the general direction of the PI in research activities. He/She will organize, design, and perform experiments utilizing molecular biology, cell imaging, and biochemical techniques. The postdoc will also assess new technology as it develops and suggest/make protocol improvements.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required by September 2023)
Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) or enrolled in a Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) program. Doctoral degree in Biology, Pharmacology Microbiology, Computational Biology, Genomics, Systems Biology, or related discipline.
A qualified, successful candidate should be self-motivated and detail-oriented with a strong background in biology and have clear oral and written communication skills. Preferred applicants would be willing to work with and guide students, contribute to grants, and work as a team to help with the lab's day-to-day operations.
Earliest starting date: September 2023
The initial appointment is for one (1) year, renewal is expected if progress is satisfactory, and funds are available.
